Born and raised in Panama, she received a Bachelor of Laws (Laws and Political Sciences) at the Universidad Católica Santa María La Antigua, and specialization in Negotiations, Treaties and International Commerce from the Universidad de Santiago de Chile.  She is also specialized in Social Responsibility Management based on ISO 26000, and is a Sustainable Development Specialist in Panama.

She was in charge of the Panama Chapters of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) from Switzerland, as well as the United Nations Global Compact from New York, for a period of two years, being part of the Advisory Council of the United Nations Regional Center for Latin American and the Caribbean Countries, and part of the Working Group for the revision of the MoU between the New York Office and the networks.

Mara is an International Certified Coach from the International Coaching Community of London, and she is also certified by the GRI Sustainability Reporting Process from Amsterdam. She is trained in the GHG Protocol (Greenhouses Gases Protocol of the WBCSD).  She was part of a joint study program with the German International Organization (GIZ) regarding Climate Change and Enterprises.

She is in charge of the Education Division of AQUA TERRA, and the relationship with the U.S. Green Building Council as Education Partner, as well as other education partnerships and knowledge sharing programs.
